What a parent contract usually covers

• Schedule: the days and hours of care, and your opening and closing times.
• Fees: the rate, when payment is due, accepted payment methods and late payment fees.
• Late pick-up: what happens and what it costs when a child is picked up after closing.
• Closures and holidays: statutory holidays, your vacation days, and whether fees apply.
• Absences: whether fees apply when a child is sick or on holiday.
• Notice: how much notice either side gives to end care.
• Signatures: both parents or guardians and the provider, with dates.

Tips for a fair, clear agreement

Use plain language, keep the numbers in one place and give families a copy. Review the contract each year when your rates change. If a policy is important to you, such as payment in advance, state it clearly in the contract instead of relying on a verbal agreement.

Get it reviewed

A contract is a legal document, and consumer and childcare rules differ by location. A template is a strong starting point, but we recommend asking a local lawyer or your licensing advisor to review your final version.
